Software Engineer I

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, ESPN Digital Media, the Software Engineer I plays a key role in the development of ESPN.com digital products, including the development of data handling applications, data manipulation tools and support of the editorial and product teams. He/she has a successful track record of developing interactive tools, utilities, and products from conceptualization through deployment. The Software Engineer I is a team player with an entrepreneurial spirit and is comfortable operating in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and implement new java based applications as well as develop new features and functionality for existing applications.
Support the existing infrastructure and applications.
Provide support to production staff by developing functionality needed to create new web applications and features
Implements assigned portions of complete development cycles, including requirements, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
Interacts mainly about semi-routine matters with others in the work group and/or with external customer contacts mainly at peer levels
Basic Qualifications
Experience with Java, servlets and web applications
Good knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including stored procedures, index strategies, and transactions
Understanding of multi-tier web architectures, and OO design patterns and concepts
Some Experience with HTTP, XML, Web Services
Manage multiple projects within a short development cycle with routine supervision
Passion for Sports
Preferred Qualifications
Must demonstrate solid organization/communication skills
Ability to work on a diverse scope of software and database projects requiring detailed analysis, creative/practical problem solving, and sound judgment
Experience/knowledge of the following is a plus: Glasssfish, Tomcat, JMS/MQ messaging, JPA/Hibernate, JAXB/JAX-RS, EJB's and other Java EE6 technologies.
Required Education
Degree in Computer Science or related field, and/or equivalent work experience
